Résumé / Abstract : Le choix d'une biographie politique, celle d'Henry de Jouvenel (1876-1935), permet d'appréhender un destin politique charnière entre celui des notables du XIXème siècle et celui des hommes politiques du XXème siècle. En outre, ce type d'itinéraire s'inscrit dans une véritable lignée dynastique : héritier d'une grande famille conservatrice, Henry de Jouvenel passe lui dans les rangs du radicalisme et son engagement offre de multiples pistes de recherche pour l'historien. La difficulté réside dans l'activité bouillonnante de ce "dilettante génial"; néanmoins plusieurs angles de recherche peuvent être envisagés: - l'influence d'un patron de presse à travers la rédaction en chef du Matin, à l'interface de tout un monde des arts et de la culture. - le rôle d'un "compagnon de route" du radicalisme. - l'influence d'un délégué français à la SDN entre 1922 et 1926, un des hommes les plus écoutés à Genève, fervent propagandiste des idéaux de sécurité collective et de désarmement, représentatif d'un milieu transnational genevois. - l'étude régionale d'un sénateur corrézien et de sa difficile implantation locale. - l'action novatrice menée en 1925-1926 en tant que haut-commissaire en Syrie et au Liban et son rôle de cheville ouvrière joue, lors de son ambassade à Rome en 1933, dans la signature du pacte à quatre, concourant au rapprochement franco-italien qu'il jugeaient indispensable.
Résumé / Abstract : A political biography, that of Henry de Jouvenel (1876-1935), allows an understanding of a political destiny of a person who played the role of a turning point between the notable citizens of the 19th century and the political men of the 20th. Furthermore Henry de Jouvenel's itinerary situates him in a genuine dynastic line : heir to a large conservative family, Henry de Jouvenel joined the ranks of radicalism, a commitment which offers many rewarding paths of research for the historian. For the researcher, the difficulty lies in the exuberant activity of this brilliant dilettante. Nevertheless, several research approaches can be considered : - the influence wielded by an editor in chief of "le matin", a newspaper which served as an interface for the world of culture and art. - his prominet role in the radicalist movement. - the impact of a French delegate at the league of nations between 1922 and 1926 : one of the most-listened to men in Geneva, a man who was also an enthusiastic propagandist for the ideals of collective security and disarmement, a man who was a representative figure of a multinational milieu then present in Geneva. - the study of a senator from the Correze region and his difficult settlement in local politics. - the innovative action led from 1925-1926 as a high commissioner in Lebanon and Syria and his important role when he was an ambassador in Rome in 1933 at the time of the signature of the "Pact of Four" which led to the French Italian reconciliation which he considered crucial.
