Résumé / Abstract : L’objet de cette thèse est de proposer une nouvelle interprétation de l'oeuvre de Cornélius Castoriadis que l'on présente traditionnellement comme scindée en deux moments bien distincts : d'un côté la période politique et militante de Socialisme ou barbarie (1949-1967), de l'autre la période philosophique et théorique de L'Institution imaginaire de la société et des Carrefours du labyrinthe ( 1968-1997). Or ce que nous cherchons à montrer c'est que les dimensions politique et philosophique sont en réalité chez Castoriadis inextricablement liés : la première partie de la thèse s'emploie, au détour de l'analyse de textes philosophiques inédits rédigés par Castoriadis au cours des années 1950, à dégager les antinomies de la pensée contemplative que Castoriadis estime être constitutives de la philosophie traditionnelle incapable de prendre en compte la spécificité de la praxis. Le deuxième volet de notre travail s'efforce de mettre en parallèle les contradictions de l'attitude contemplative et celles de la politique révolutionnaire traditionnelle, et de comprendre les raisons profondes qui ont conduit Castoriadis à rompre avec le marxisme. Le troisième moment de notre thèse cherche à mettre en valeur l'originalité de la pensée politique de Castoriadis élaborée suite à sa rupture avec le marxisme, et qui aura consisté en une réflexion sur les conditions d'une société démocratique véritable, conçue comme auto-institution explicite, par l'intermédiaire d'une compréhension de l'historicité élaborée en rapport avec la psychanalyse et l'ontologiegrecque du chaos.
Résumé / Abstract : The goal of this thesis is to offer a new interpretation of Cornélius Castoriadis' s work which is traditionallv presented as being split into two clearlv distinct moments: on the one hand. the political and militant period of Socialism or Barbarism (1949-1967), and on tin other hand, the philosophical and theoretical period of The imaginary Institution of Society and Crossroads in the Labyrinth (1968- 1997). However, what we endeavour to demonstrate is that, in reality, the political and philosophical dimensions are deeply interwove in Castoriadis's work. Through the analysis of hitherto unpublished philosophical texts written by Castoriadis throughout the 1950s, the first part of the thesis is devoted to emphasizing the antinomies of the contemplative thought which, according to Castoriadis. are constituent of the traditional philosophy which is unable to take the specificity of the praxis into account. The second part of our work attempts to draw a parallel between the contradictions of the contemplative attitude and those of the traditional revolutionary politics, and to understand the deep reasons which led Castoriadis to break off with Marxism. The third part of the thesis seeks to highlight the originality of Castoriadis's political thought, elaborated following his breaking off with Marxism and which will have consisted of a reflection on the conditions of a genuine democratic society, conceived as an explicit self-institution; through an understanding of the historicity elaborated in keeping with psychoanalysis and the Greek ontology of chaos.
