Résumé / Abstract : The Parisian Journal in September 1997 and one press release of the french authorities in October 1997 inform that fifty eight patients contracted a spondylodiscite inoculation with Mycobacterium xenopi in a Parisian private clinic. It is what will call "the business of the Private clinic of the Sport". An investigation showed that the source of the epidemic proved to be a contamination of the surgical instruments after disinfection during the phase of rinsing with water which contained a strong quantity of this germ. These instruments were not sterilized as that would have being the case. The risks related to the ill treatment of medico-surgical instrumentation appeared as clear as day. The French circular n°672 of October 20, 1997 relating to the sterilization of the medical devices was the immediate measurement taken by the authorities. It is one of the turnings in France in the evolution of the regulation in sterilization. After an assessment of the texts former and posterior of this circular, we were interested in consequences of the evolution of this regulation (first part) and more particularly for the sterilization service of a Parisian hospital (second part).
