Résumé / Abstract : A travers l'analyse des statistiques et l'observation des modes de vie au quotidien, il s'agit de rendre la dimension sociale des changements économiques qui se sont produits à Ibiza au cours des deux dernières décennies. Le principal facteur de changement a été l'arrivée du tourisme de masse qui a déclenché un processus d'immigration à la suite d'une amélioration sensible du niveau de vie dans l'ile, et notamment d'un élargissement des possibilités d'emploi dans le secteur des services jusqu'alors presque inexistant dans l'économie insulaire. L’agriculture s'est vue délaissée, et la paysannerie a du s'accommoder des nouvelles taches économiques au même temps qu'elle voyait s'accroitre ses ressources - fait notable pour une population jusqu'alors démunie et, du fait du déficit de l'emploi, touchée par l'émigration. Par ailleurs, ce changement économique a eu des conséquences immédiates sur le plan démographique, et les indices d'accroissement - le taux de natalité notamment - se sont redressés. L'arrivée d'une population immigrée dont la fécondité était élevée y a beaucoup contribué. Dès lors on a assisté à l'élargissement de la communauté insulaire et à la diversification des modes de vie. Les frontières de la structure sociale traditionnelle se sont donc brisées, et l'endogamie et les mariages consanguins (qui étaient la marque extrême de son isolement) se sont interrompus. Face aux mœurs traditionnelles, ils en apparaissent d'autres qui s'accommodent de la modernisation et permettent le relâchement des comportements au sein d'une société ou l'économie dépend, en grande partie, de l'image que ses habitants peuvent donner aux étrangers, notamment aux vacanciers qui cherchent le loisir.
Résumé / Abstract : Through statistical analysis and the observation of every day way of life, the purpose is to show the social dimensions of the economic changes that have taken place on Ibiza over the last two decades. The most important factor of change has been the appearance of tourism which started a process of immigration following a marked improvement in the standard of life on the island - notably an in- crease in work prospects in the service industries, up until then almost non-existent. Agriculture, which was up to that time the largest employer, found itself being left behind, and the rural population had to adapt themselves to the new economic conditions whilst their wealth grew. The significance of this growth for such a population which up till then was in a poor state because of the stagnation of economy, helped to prevent emigration. Elsewhere, the consequences of economic changes on the demography were felt very quickly, and the growth indices - notably the birth rate - were corrected. The arrival of an immigrant population with a very high level of fertility added to this. From then one saw an increase of the insular community and a variety in ways of life. This resulted in the stretching of the social norms. The limits of the traditional social structure were broken and the endogamy and the inter-marriages which were maintaining them, were halted. In place of the old morals, new ones are emerging which are adapted to the modernization and are allowing the relaxation of behavior in a society where the economy depends on the image shown by its inhabitants to foreigners, especially to tourists who are looking for leisure.
