Résumé / Abstract : The analysis of distance in the novel form has never truly aroused passion and fervour in criticism concentrating essentialy the problems of narrative. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that the tradition the novel itself, in its development, has favoured only aspects of the text, I.E. the narrative and the character. But today, narrative and character are disppeating more and more, and being replaced by description and distance. The problem of novelistic distance is, in any case, posed quite clearly in Robbe-Grillet's work. It is no longuer matter of approching a novel from the point of view of development of a plot, but rather of development of a perspective. This writing technique consequently raises problems of focus and distance, both between the writer and his work, and between the reader and the work. A fundamental conclusion that emerges from the analysis of such texts may be thas defined : Robbe-Grillet seeks in the text to erase the traces of the writer. But perhaps he does this to encourage the further participation of the reader on the novel's constraction.
